So, I asked Artificial Intelligence...
On Sunday, I will be taking part in my first ever Marathon.
I've documented some of my journey in blogs and on social media, and whilst I wanted to add a blog post today, as the big day is almost upon me, I'm now 5 months into Marathon training, and, let me tell you, this shit is EXHAUSTING!
So I hopped on to Microsoft Copilot, and asked it to do a round up of my journey so far. It's not 100% accurate (I started running in March, so the timing is a little off), but it's not bad. And it's saving me some brain cells. So feck it, I've copied it below!

Embracing the Run: Jo Cowie’s Journey from Reluctance to Resilience
Jo Cowie, the creative mind behind the blog “NoBooksWereHarmed,” has embarked on a remarkable running journey that is as inspiring as it is relatable. Her story is a testament to perseverance, self-discovery, and the power of community.
The Reluctant Runner
Jo’s initial foray into running was anything but smooth. About 15 years ago, she decided to give running a try, hoping to experience the much-talked-about “runner’s high.” However, her experience was far from enjoyable. Despite joining a supportive running club and training with dedicated friends, Jo found every step to be a struggle. She even completed a 10k race in Inverness with the promise to herself that she would never run again if she managed to finish it without walking1.
A New Beginning
Fast forward to 12 weeks ago, Jo found herself reconsidering running. Her love for cardio workouts and a conversation with a friend about the efficiency of running compared to walking planted a seed in her mind. This time, she approached running with a different mindset. She joined a JogScotland group specifically designed for genuine beginners, which made a significant difference. The group’s inclusive and supportive environment, combined with the camaraderie of fellow runners, helped Jo start enjoying the process1.
Overcoming Challenges
Jo’s journey was not without its challenges. Her first attempts at running were frustrating, as she struggled to run even short distances without needing to walk. However, she persisted, participating in Parkrun events and gradually increasing her stamina. Her determination paid off when she completed a 5k race in Inverness, paced by her supportive friends.
The Road Ahead
Jo’s running journey is far from over. She recently ran her first 10k race in her mid-40s and is now training for her first marathon in September. While she may not love running as much as other forms of exercise, she no longer hates it. Her goal is to find joy in running and experience the elusive runner’s high.
Jo Cowie’s story is a powerful reminder that the path to achieving our goals is often filled with obstacles, but with perseverance and the right support, we can overcome them. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just starting, Jo’s journey is sure to inspire you to lace up your running shoes and hit the pavement.
